Becoming Catholic: The journey of Christian Initiation – The Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA, formerly RCIA), also called the Catechumenate, is a process of initiation into the Catholic Community of Faith for persons who are experiencing a conversion in their lives and seeking either Christian baptism in the Catholic Church or full Communion with the Catholic tradition of Eucharist and Confirmation. The OCIA is more than a course of instruction. It is a conversion process, designed to meet the unique and individual needs of the participants. You are welcome to stop in on Sundays at 9 a.m. to inquire with Barbara or Seth Wegher-Thompson. Look for the AHA: Ask Her Anything signs on the hospitality patio or contact Seth (805-657-7085) or Barbara 805-657-6480 Their goal is to provide a place for you to ask question, gain some clarity into your journey and explore the Catholic faith. More information is available on the parish website.
Baptism – for children 8 years and older Children at the age of 8 or older are able to understand the promises made in baptism and the concepts of faith. The preparation for baptism will include the child as well as the parents as they prepare to become Catholic and make the statements of faith themselves. Children 8 and older are baptized, confirmed and receive their First Communion at the Easter Vigil. We work with families to prepare the children over a period of time. For information on the process for your child, please contact [email protected] or 818-889-0612
